Royal Knights

Royal Knights

The Royal Knights are characters in the Digimon series. A group of thirteen powerful Digimon, founded by Imperialdramon Paladin Mode, their purpose is to keep order within the Digital World - their view of order, that is. The Royal Knights do not always fight for a good cause but in the cause they believe to be right. Generally, they are conservative and favor the status quo. They only reveal themselves at times where the Digital World is in a dire crisis.

Members

Only nine of the thirteen Royal Knights have been identified thus far.
- Omnimon/Omegamon
- Magnamon
- Gallantmon/Dukemon
- Dynasmon/Dunusmon
- Crusadermon/LordKnightmon
- AlforceVeedramon/UlforceVeedramon
- Alphamon
- Craniummon
- Sleipmon Imperialdramon Paladin Mode is the founder of the Royal Knights, but not a member. Imperialdramon Fighter Mode is not a Royal Knight. KingEtemon claims to be a Royal Knight, but is not officially listed as one.

Important Events

Digimon Frontier

It is theorized by some fans that the Royal Knights were among the Digimon that fought Lucemon prior to his defeat at the hands of the Ten Anicent Warriors. During his imprisonment he somehow recruited Dynasmon and Crusadermon to his services in a matter similar to Cherubimon. In return for the Fractal Code Lucemon needed to be revived, he promised to give the two safe passage to the Real World so that they could sample 'human-data' and make the Earth theirs to rule. In their first clash with the DigiDestined, Dynasmon & Crusadermon easily overpowered EmperorGreymon & MagnaGarurumon, who would prove to be their most frequent opponents in the following battles until they were defeated. When Lucemon was resurrected, he sent the Knights to kill the kids. But Crusadermon and Dynasmon were finally defeated by EmperorGreymon and MagnaGarurumon, with Lucemon taking their Fractal Codes for himself before EmperorGreymon could purify them. Lucemon uses the Fractal Code to become Lucemon Chaos Mode.

Digimon X-Evolution

When the number of Digimon in the Digital World was getting out of hand, it overwhelmed the memory of its host computer, Yggdrasil. To eliminate the overpopulation, Yggdrasil created the X-Program to destroy the Digimon it left in the 'old' Digital World. However, another program, the X-Antibody, was created to make Digimon immune to the X-Program upon absorbing it. With these "X-Digimon" entering the 'new' Digital World, Yggdrasil sent the Royal Knights to hunt down and destroy these abnormal beings as well as conduct Project Ark, a genocide of X-Digimon and those who supported them. The Royal Knights were originally started by an Imperialdramon Paladin Mode. Category:Digimon

Digimon

Digimon (short for Digital Monster) (Japanese: デジモン, Romaji dejimon) is a Japanese series of children's merchandise, including toys, manga and anime, featuring monsters of various forms living in a "Digital World". Digimon contains many of the typical themes associated with mon (monster).

Overview

Digimon started out as a dueling digital pet or Tamagotchi called "Digital Monster" that was released by Bandai on June 26, 1997. The Digital Monster toy was enormously successful, and four different colors of the toy were released in November of the same year. In December of the same year, the second generation of "Digital Monster" was released. Digimon first appeared in illustrated form with the advent of the one-shot manga C'mon Digimon, which was released in summer 1997. C'mon Digimon spawned the popular Digimon Adventure V-Tamer 01 manga series, which began on November 21, 1998. Digimon first appeared in game form on January 28, 1999 with the release of the popular Digimon World game for PlayStation and made its first foray into animation a few months later.

TV series

Following the release of the first Digimon movie in Japan in 1999, the first Digimon television series, Digimon Adventure began airing on Fuji TV in March of the same year; three other series followed in consecutive years: Digimon Adventure 02, Digimon Tamers and Digimon Frontier. Adventure 02 is a continuation of Adventure. Tamers only connection to the Adventure series is the character Ryou (whose story was explained through the Digimon games for Bandai's WonderSwan video game system). Frontier has no connections to the other three series. Frontier was also the final series of Digimon, ending with its 50th episode (205th in the overall series), End of the Line. However, with the recent dubbing of the previously Japanese-exclusive movies, the eighth Digimon movie airing on Japanese TV, and other assorted merchandise, it is quite safe to say that Digimon has not died out.

The movies

There have been eight individual
Digimon films released in Japan with all but the eighth spinning out of the assorted TV series.

Digimon Adventure

At a length of thirty minutes, the original movie, the first
Digimon animated product, occurs before the events of the first TV series. It focuses on Taichi and Hikari four years before the start of Adventure and shows their first encounter with Digimon. A Digi-Egg emerges through the children's father's computer and promptly hatches into a Botamon. It causes various problems as it grows and evolves, eventually becoming a Greymon. It battles a Parrotmon that hatches out of a Digi-Egg that appears in the sky. When the events of this movie were covered in the TV series, it was revealed that the events of this battle caused the eight children to be selected to become the new generation of Chosen Children, known as the DigiDestined in the dub.

Digimon Adventure: Our War Game

This second movie, which runs forty minutes, takes place after the end of the first TV series and features its cast. When the computer virus Digimon, Diaboromon raises havoc all over the world through the Internet during Spring Break, four of the chosen children, Taichi, Yamato, Koushirou and Takeru, must put a stop to it before it provokes the launching of nuclear warheads. Taichi and Yamato's Digimon pursue the villain through the Internet. In the final battle against Diaboromon, Wargreymon and Metalgururumon merge into Omnimon to destroy him.

Digimon Adventure 02: Digimon Hurricane Touchdown!!/Supreme Evolution!! The Golden Digimentals

This was the third
Digimon movie & the first Digimon Adventure 02 movie. The short length of most of the movies meant that they were commonly screened as a double-bill with another short feature. However, the movie's length meant that it screened alone, split into two acts. This movie features the new generation of Chosen Children as they travel from Japan to the U.S. and meet up with an American Chosen Child, Wallace, who is trying to stop the enigmatic threat of Kokomon. It is eventually revealed that Chocomon is actually one of Wallace's own twin Digimon Partners. Chocomon seeks to be reunited with Wallace and captures the original Chosen Children in this bid. The new Chosen Children go up against Chocomon in an epic clash as their foe evolves into his Ultimate form, prompting a series of new evolutions from Angemon, Angewomon, Veemon and Terriermon which win the day. It is generally accepted that this movie is out of continuity with the events of the TV series due to the appearance of Angewomon (at a time when the Digimon have lost the ability to assume this level of form) and her and Angemon's transformations into their Mega forms, an ability never displayed in the show. Likewise, the sudden, unexplained appearance of the titular Golden Digimentals does not fit with the series.

Digimon: The Movie

As the only theatrical release of a
Digimon animated feature in the west, Digimon: The Movie combined Digimon Adventure, Children's War Game and Digimon Hurricane Touchdown!!/Supreme Evolution!! The Golden Digimentals into one movie. However, as there was no specific connection between the storylines of these movies in their original Japanese form, some substantial rewriting and re-editing of the movies occurred - most notably, Wallace was written into the second feature and credited with the creation of Diablomon, while the third movie received some particularly large cuts, reducing its length to thirty minutes and, most specifically, removing the subplot about Chocomon's capture of the original Chosen Children. The Digimon Movie soundtrack is currently [http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00004Y6NE/qid=1124231372/sr=8-7/ref=pd_bbs_7/103-1009036-9905443?v=glanceands=musicandn=507846 avaliable] at Amazon.com. This is the first Digimon movie to be created in a western country and was released in theatres by 20th Century Fox and Saban Entertainment.

Digimon Adventure 02: Diablomon Strikes Back

English: Revenge of Diaboromon Thirty minutes in length, the fourth Digimon feature is the last movie to feature the cast of the Adventure/02 series, taking place three months after after the climactic finale of the series and before the epilogue. It sees the Chosen Children go up against Diaboromon again. As the younger kids attempt to handle the flood of Kuramon into the real world, Taichi and Yamato head back to the Internet with Omnimon to deal with Diablomon. Omegamon successfully destroys him. However, this proves to be a trap, as his destruction allows many more Kuramon to go to the real world, where they merge to create Armageddemon, powerful enough to defeat both Omnimon and Imperialdramon. In the end, Omnimon gives his energy to Imperialdramon Fighter Mode, powering him up to Paladin Mode and giving him the strength to destroy Armageddemon. When the movie was originally screened in 2001, it was apparent that there was some degree of interest to dub it for release in some form in the west, as the script was translated into English by the series translator (known to Internet Digimon fans as [http://www.megchan.com Megchan]). However, for whatever reason - possibly due to the Disney takeover - this production never came to light. The movie was at last dubbed and aired on ABC Family on August 6, 2005.

Digimon Tamers: The Adventurers' Battle

English: Battle of the Adventurers The fifth Digimon movie is the first to feature the new universe of the third TV series, Digimon Tamers, and sends Takato on vacation to Okinawa to visit his cousin, Kai. Encountering Minami Uehara, Takato learns of an evil plan formulated by Mephistomon to use V-Pets to disrupt Earth's electronics network and spell the end of the human race. Together with Kai, his fellow Tamers and the mysterious Seasarmon, Takato goes up against Mephismon to save the world. Early mistranslated promo information cemented the idea that this fifty-minute movie was out of continuity with the series, but in the finished movie, there is very little to suggest that this could be true. The fact that Kai goes on to appear later in the series itself suggests that the movie is in continuity. Like Diablomon Strikes Back, this movie was translated into English around the time of its original screening, but was not dubbed until 2005.

Digimon Tamers: Runaway Digimon Express

English: Runaway Locomon This thirty-minute movie takes place after the Digimon Tamers series finale and features the Tamers trying to stop a train Digimon named Locomon, who is being controlled by Parasimon. The movie also serves to turn the spotlight on Ruki, as we see her memories of her estranged father, who receives no attention in the series. Originally screened in Japan in March 2002, it reached American TV screens in October 2005.

Digimon Frontier: Revival of the Ancient Digimon

English: Island of Lost Digimon The last of the Digimon movies to spin out of one of the TV series, this forty-minute Digimon Frontier movie sends Takuya and company to the legendary "Wandering Island," where they find themselves caught in the middle of a civil war between human and beast Digimon, instingated by an evil Digimon named Murmuxmon. Murmuxmon, posing as the leader of each side in the war, plans to free an ancient evil that the two of the Ancient Warriors, AncientGreymon and AncientGarurumon, had defeated in the distant past. This movie is also out of continuity with the series, and it is easy to explain why through the observation of three facts:
- Takuya and Kouji are shown to be in possession of their Beast Spirits.
- Izumi has her Human Spirit.
- Bokomon is not carrying Seraphimon's egg. These three events are not reconcilable with the TV series - Bokomon was always carrying the egg once Izumi reclaimed her spirit, but Takuya and Kouji obtained their Beast Spirits after she lost it. The dub aired in October 2005.

Digital Monster X-Evolution: The Thirteenth Royal Knight

This is the longest-running
Digimon movie (and also the only one to premiere on Japanese TV), clocking in at seventy-five minutes. The movie is entirely rendered with computer-generated imagery and is the first to exist in a universe of its own, not spinning out of any of the TV series. The story is, however, loosely based on Digimon Chronicle (the accompanying fiction of the product line at the time). The main character is Dorumon, a mysterious Digimon who travels around the Digital World attempting to discover the reason for his existence. But with his past surrounded in mystery, Dorumon's future also soon becomes uncertain as he finds himself caught between the warring forces of the X-Antibody Digimon, and the Royal Knights, the servants of the Digital World's host computer, Yggdrasil.

Comics

C'mon Digimon

In summer 1997, a one-shot manga involving battles between more-or-less holographic Digimon was planned, but apparently never got off the ground. However, this manga was published as a special in volume two of V-Tamer, and there it was revealed the hero of this manga, Kentarou, was the source and inspiration for the design and character of Taichi, the hero of V-Tamer and the leader of the Chosen Children in
Digimon Adventure.

Digimon Adventure V-Tamer 01

V-Tamer was the first and longest-running Digimon manga, printed in the pages of V-Jump magazine. Starting on November 21 1998, it ran to fifty-eight chapters and ended on August 21 2003. This manga introduces the character of Taichi - although it must be noted that he is not the same Taichi that features in the Digimon Adventure TV series. V-Tamer takes place in an alternate universe. In this universe, Taichi is involved in a V-Pet tournament, where he is told he cannot play because the Digimon in his V-Pet isn't recognized as being a real Digimon. However, after the tournament is over, Taichi plays the winner of the tournament, a boy named Neo Saiba, and their battle ends in a tie - something that is supposed to be impossible. Later, Taichi is summoned to the Digital World by a HolyAngemon called Lord HolyAngemon, and there he meets the mysterious Digimon in his V-Pet, Zeromaru the V-dramon. Taichi and Zeromaru travel to Lord HolyAngemon's castle with the aid of Gabo the Gabumon, and there Lord HolyAngemon begs Taichi to find the five Tamer Tags and defeat the evil Demon, who has disrupted the peace of the Digital World. Along the way, more humans are brought to the Digital World by Demon, including Neo Saiba, Rei Saiba, Sigma, Mari, and Hideto. Neo is chosen to raise the Digimon that will hatch from the Super Ultimate egg Demon is raising. Rei Saiba, Neo's sister, has a Digimental that will allow the Demon's experimental Digimon to evolve to a level beyond Ultimate. The others, called the Alias III, are to help Neo and Demon with their Digimon. Hideto's Partner is Omegamon, formed by the Jogress of Org and Meluuga, a WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon respectively. Mari's Partner is a Rosemon and Sigma's is a Piemon. They are all villains that eventually reform except Rei, who has no Digimon Partner or evil intentions.

Dark Horse

Dark Horse Comics published American-style Digimon comic books, adapting the first dubbed 13 episodes of the first animated season. The conclusion to the story arc, however, was never released.

Panini

The European publishing company, Panini, approached Digimon in different ways in different countries. While Germany created their own adaptations of episodes, the United Kingdom reprinted the Dark Horse titles, then translated some of the German adaptations of second-season episodes, and finally began to print their own original stories, which appeared in both the UK's Official Digimon Magazine, and the official Fox Kids companion magazine, Wickid. These original tales danced in and around the continuity of the second animated season, before shifting to the third season, where the stories were more carefully thought out to fit between the tight storytelling of the animated series and would sometimes focusing on subject matter not covered by the show (such as Yamaki's past) or in the west (such as Ryo's story or the undubbed movies). Eventually, in a money saving venture, the original stories were removed from Digimon Magazine, which returned to printing translated German adaptations, this time of Tamers episodes. Eventaully, both magazines were cancelled.

TOKYOPOP manga

The TOKYOPOP Digimon manga is a Chinese manhua written and drawn by Yuen Wong Yu, based on the television series and brought to North America, translated by Lianne Sentar. Covering
Digimon Adventure in five volumes, Digimon Adventure 02 in two and Digimon Tamers in four, it is heavily abridged, though in rare occasions plays through events differently to the anime. This is the main attraction of the series. Three additional volumes exist, covering Digimon Frontier, but these have not been released in English by TOKYOPOP.

Digimon Chronicle

Digimon Chronicle was the storyline accompanying the 2004 Digimon product line. Originally rumoured to be a new, full-blown manga to replace V-Tamer 01, it eventually transpired to be mostly prose text, printed in the booklets which accompanied the "Pendulum" digital pets. These booklets also contained short, non-sequiter six-page mangas. There are four "chapters", one sold with the Pendulum X 1.0, another with the Pendulum X 1.5, another with the Pendulum X 2.0, and the final chapter with the Pendulum X 3.0. This fiction tells the story of a Digital World controlled by a sentient computer named Yggdrasil. Because Digimon had multiplied so much in the past, Yggdrasil, the host computer, was unable to handle the load and the Digital Hazard occurred. Yggdrasil then created the "New Digital World", consisting of three layers for the past, present, and future - Urd, Versandi, and Skuld, respectively, and then let loose with Project Ark and the X Program to eliminate any Digimon Yggdrasil no longer wanted. However, the Digimon adapted by obtaining a program called the X Antibody, which strengthened them, changed their form, and made them immune to the X Program. Yggdrasil sent in the Royal Knights, thirteen Digimon devoted to keeping order in the Digital World, and at this point Kouta, Yuuji, and Shinji, three humans, somehow found their way into the Digital World and met their partner Digimon, Dorumon for Kouta and Ryuudamon for Yuuji. Kouta and Yuuji resisted Yggdrasil and the Royal Knights, but Shinji apparently sided with Yggdrasil.

D-Cyber

The D-Cyber manga is another Chinese Digimon manhua based on the adventures of Hikaru, Masuken, and Teru. It introduces the concept of X Digimon, but their origin is different from that in the Japanese Digimon Chronicle. In short, an evil MetalPhantomon seeks to steal the Dragon Spirit from Hikaru's Digimon and use it to revive a powerful evil Digimon. In the end, it takes the power of the three Holy Knights (Omegamon, Dukemon, and Magnamon) and the power of the three Tamers to put a stop to MetalPhantomon and what he's done.

Fan Influence

As
Digimon continues to grow in popularity internationally, the fanbase around the show and manga continues to grow with it in a manner akin to other fandoms. As with most anime, this includes extensive shipping. Digmon fanshippers popularized the jargon of their specific brand of shipping by combining the first and last syllables of the relevant characters names, rather than the standard American "/" or "X". Due to the relative quickness and more accurate translation of the dubbing of the third season, American and Japanese fandoms were somewhat aware of each other and contributed to each others fandoms. Many fandoms sprouted from Digimon, including a popular fandom called "FDD" (Fictional Digimon and Digidestined) that had a large fandom for Digimon from 1998 on and is still alive today. Their purpose was to create fictional Digimon and Digidestined teams (or now Tamers) and exchange stories, ideas and drawn images. The fandom is still active in select websites, such as Injenn.net and Sagari-Cross.com. They would create their own Digimon and Digidestined and write stories about their adventures. Customs included starting new stories, drawing pictures for fellow FDDs, and making websites about their characters.

Imperialdramon Paladin Mode

Imperialdramon Paladin Mode is from the Digimon 02 Series. He is founder of the Royal Knights. Imperialdramon Fighter Mode can change mode once more to Imperialdramon Paladin Mode.

Important Events

Digimon Adventure 02

Diaboromon Strikes Back

After Armageddemon badly injured Omnimon, Davis and Ken were able to locate Veemon and Wormmon (who got separated from them during the chaos the Kuramon stirred). They Digivolved to Imperialdramon Fighter Mode and tried to use their Giga Crusher, however, it was not strong enough and Imperialdramon was injured in Armageddemon's counterattack. In the end, Omnimon gave his remaining energy to Imperialdramon by having his arms separate from him to become Agumon and Gabumon while his main body became the Omni Sword (Omega Blade), which transformed Imperialdramon Fighter Mode into Imperialdramon Paladin Mode. With this power, Imperialdramon defeated Armageddemon. Category: Mega_Digimon

Omnimon

Omnimon is a character in the Digimon series and is one of the Thirteen Royal Knights. He was known as Omegamon in the Japanese version, and is the result of a fusion between WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon. The head of each became fused onto Omnimon's arms, enabling him to use two attacks: Transcendent Sword (Grey Sword in Japan) with the WarGreymon arm, and Supreme Cannon (Garuru Cannon in Japan) with the MetalGarurumon arm. Somtimes considered the most powerful digimon of all.

Important Events

Our War Game

Omnimon was formed from the energy of Tai and Matt when their respective digimon proved unrespondive in the Digital World. Both Tai and Matt digitalized into the computer world by accident, and helped their Digimon fuse into Omnimon to defeat Diaboromon. Izzy redirected thousands of other childrens's supportive emails at Diaboromon to give him massive lag, and Omnimon was able to defeat him and deactivate the nuclear missiles Diaboromon had hacked into and sent to Japan and Colorado.

Revenge of Diaboromon

Three years later, when Diaboromon was discovered to have survived, Omnimon went into the internet to deal with him once again. With some help from Angemon and Angewomon, who helped distract Diaboromon and hold him down, Omnimon was able to administer the final blow with his Transcendent Sword, essentially destroying Diaboromon, but it was a trap for all of the Kuramon to get through to the real world. The Kuramon formed Armageddemon, and Omnimon was able to follow it the real world to deal with it, but despite his best efforts Omnimon was no match for Armageddemon, and his arms were separated from his body. In the end Omnimon gives the rest of his energy to Imperialdramon Fighter Mode, creating Imperialdramon Paladin Mode, where his main body transforms into the Omni Sword (Omega Blade in Japan) while the arms revert back to Agumon and Gabumon.

Battle of the Adventurers

Omnimon later appeared in a fifth Digimon movie, though it was a different Omnimon whose mission was to stop the movie's antagonist, Mephistomon, from entering the real-world to kill every human in it. Unfortunately, Omnimon failed, and had to assemble Takato, Rika and Henry to fight Mephistomon for him, as Omnimon had to destroy the other evil Digimon taking advantage of the crisis.

V-Tamer

Omnimon is the third mega Digimon Zeromaru had to fight, the partner of Hideto Fujimoto of the Alias Three, made up of Org the WarGreymon and Meruga the MetalGarurumon. After being defeated by Zeromaru, Omnimon would later help him out in the fight against Arcadimon. He is the only Digimon of the Alias Three that wasn't destroyed.

Digimon X-Evolution

Arcadimon Arcadimon He is the confident leader of the Royal Knights, initially carrying out Project Ark almost to the letter. He is a follower of Yggdrasil, a super-computer governing the current Digital World. In X-Evolution, he is the main policing power, although he acts against informants and those betrayed with unprejudiced force. When Gallantmon confronted him about Yggdrasil, they were unable to agree about the nature of Project Ark and so they fought, ending with the other Knight's demise. This event is what makes Omnimon seriously start to question Yggdrasil, shaken as he is by his friend's death. But even so, he still carries out Yggdrasil's orders. It was only when Alphamon saved Omnimon's life and gave him an X-Antibody that the Knight's eyes were really opened to Yggdrasil's true motives. Transforming into Omnimon X, he destroyed Yggdrasil with All Delete, resetting the Digital World as a result. Category:Mega Digimon

Magnamon

Magnamon is a fictional character from the Digimon series. One of the 13 Royal Knights who can travel at the speed of light, wearing golden armor on his body. Magnamon is the Golden Armor form of Veemon created by the Digi-Egg of Miracles.

Important Events

Digimon 02

He debuted when the Digimon Emperor cut a swath of destruction across the Digital World with Kimeramon. Magnamon then engaged Kimeramon, heavily damaging Ken's fortress in the process. But Kimeramon eventually got the upperhand. Wormmon, in a last attempt to stop his friend and make him see the error of his ways, managed to free Magnamon and then gave him his lifeforce. Magnamon, re-energised by Wormmon’s sacrifice, used his Magna Explosion attack to destroy Kimeramon.

Hurricane Touchdown/Supreme Evolution! The Golden Digimentals

He appeared, along with Rapidmon, to fight Kokomon in the form of Cherubimon. Their attacks did little damage, as Cherubimon continuously healed himself after each injury and then swallowed the two Digimon. Inside of him, guided by the small part of him that was still untainted, Magnamon and Rapidmon killed Kokomon to end his suffering on the Digimon's behalf.

In their first clash with the DigiDestined, Crusadermon easily overpowered MagnaGarurumon, who would prove to be her most frequent opponent in the following battles. Crusadermon had her doubts in how powerful the DigiDestined were getting and was anxious to enter the Real World, only to be chastised by both Lucemon and Dynasmon. Lucemon was finally reborn and the DigiDestined were forced to retreat to the Ophanimoon. Crusadermon repeatedly requested the key of Lucemon, who intended to, upon the kids’ destruction. Crusadermon pressed the issue, only to have Lucemon lash out at the Knights and be chastised for doubting once again. Arriving on the moon, the final battle between the Knights and EmperorGreymon and MagnaGarurumon began but soon, this time, the two Royal Knights were defeated. A point-blank attack from MagnaGarurumon finally defeated Crusadermon, exposing her Fractal Code. EmperorGreymon almost scanned them but Lucemon suddenly appeared and took their Fractal Codes for himself.

Hurricane Touchdown/Supreme Evolution! The Golden Digi-Eggs

- In the dub version, he was credited as 'Kerpymon'. After Antylamon was defeated, he rose from the waters of a lake in this new form and reverted all the Digimon to Rookie Level. He pulled them into his hands and began to juggle them, only to hurl them away and turn on Willis. The Digimon fought back but the monster had the upperhand and was about to eat them when Angemon and Angewomon arrived in the nick of time to save them. Cherubimon used his powers to turn the new DigiDestined back into toddlers. He had to deal with Magnamon and Rapidmon but Cherubimon managed to swallow the two Golden Armor Digimon. But inside the belly of the beast, they were confronted with an image of Wendigomon, who pleaded with them to end his suffering by killing him. In doing so, Cherubimon reverted to his purified state - only to die seconds later. Not long after, however, Willis and Terriermon came upon a Digi-Egg which hatched and Digivolved to Lopmon.

Digimon Frontier

One of the three Angel Digimon chosen to govern the Digital World, Cherubimon was given the Spirits of Darkness, Steel, Water, Wood and Earth. He was responsible for chronicling all events in the Digital World until he began asking for Seraphimon to change some of the laws for Beast-type Digimon. But Cherubimon eventually started thinking neither Seraphimon or Ophanimon cared what he thought, more so when he saw them talking behind his back (though he misunderstood what they were talking about). Cherubimon's hatred soon consumed him, opening his heart to the darkness created by Lucemon. Transformed into a evil parody of himself, Cherubimon rallied others who shared his beliefs and declared war. He managed to defeat Seraphimon easily and imprisoned Ophanimon in his Castle of Darkness at Rose Venus Terminal. He also gave four of Spirits to his elite forces, while giving the Spirit of Darkness to Koichi (whom he brainwashed). But once his Evil Warriors were defeated, he took on the kids himself. He was so powerful that Ophanimon had to upgrade both Takuya and Koji's D-Tectors so that, together, both of them could use all the spirits to become EmperorGreymon and MagnaGarurumon. But even using all the data he collected to make himself invincible, he was finally defeated and purged of all his malice. A short time later, after the DigiDestined ended up on the Ophanimoon, Patamon found Cherubimon's Digi-Egg, which hatched into Lopmon. Category: Mega Digimon

DigiDestined

DigiDestined (Chosen Children in the Japanese version) is a name of a group in the anime and manga series Digimon. DigiDestined is a term for those children selected to protect the Digital World from the forces of evil. In seasons one and two, a DigiDestined is defined by possession of a Digivice, and a link to a Digimon partner, in whom they can induce Digivolution. Apparently, only children who have seen Digimon before can become DigiDestined. By the time of the epilogue to the second season, almost everyone on Earth has a Digimon partner, though only few can be deemed as "DigiDestined". There are no DigiDestined in the third season - although Takato likens being a Tamer to being "some kind of DigiDestined," and although the basic principle is the same (Digivice, link to partner, Digivolution), Tamers are not DigiDestined. However, the children are listed here for the sake of completeness. DigiDestined returned in the fourth season of the cartoon, when Ophanimon summoned many Earth children to the Digital World. The DigiDestined stood revealed among them when their cell phones took on the form of D-Tector Digivices. These DigiDestined possess no partners, instead transforming into Digimon themselves through the power of the Ancient Spirits.

Yggdrasil

.]] In Norse mythology, Yggdrasil (actually Yggdrasill ; the extra -l is a nominative case marker) also sometimes called Mimameid or Lerad was the "World tree", a gigantic tree, thought to connect all the nine worlds of Norse cosmology. It is often suggested to be an ash tree, an interpretation generally accepted in the modern Scandinavian mind. Another possibility is that the tree was formerly conceived of as a yew, consistent with its Eddic attribute of being evergreen. Ásgard, Álfheim and Vanaheim rested on the branches of Yggdrasil. The trunk was the world-axis piercing through the center of Miðgarð, around which Jotunheim was situated, and below which lay Nidavellir or Svartálfheim. The three roots stretched down to Helheim, Niflheim and Muspelheim, although only the first world hosted a spring for Yggdrasil (see below).

Etymology and alternative names

The most commonly accepted etymology of the name is ygg "terrible" + drasil "steed". Yggr is taken to be an epithet of Odin, giving a meaning of "Odin's steed", taken to refer to the nine nights Odin is said to have spent hanging from the tree in order find the runes. The gallows are sometimes described in Old Norse poetry as the "horse of the hanged." Another interpretation of the name is "terrible horse", i. e. the association with Odin may be secondary. A third interpretation, with etymological difficulties, is "yew-column", associating the tree with the Eihwaz rune ᛇ. Fjölsvinnsmál, a poem in the Poetic Edda, refers to the World Tree as Mimameid (ON: Mímameiðr, "Mimir's tree" ). Most probably, the tree is also identical to Lerad (ON: Læraðr) a tree whose leaves and twigs reach down to the roof of Valhalla and provide food for the goat Heiðrún and the stag Eikþyrnir that both live on the roof.

Yggdrasil in the Edda

Three roots supported the trunk, with one passing through Asgard, one through Jotunheim and one through Helheim. Beneath the Asgard root lay the sacred Well of Urd (Urðabrunnr), and there dwelt the three Nornir, over whom even the gods had no power, and who, every day, watered the tree from the primeval fountain, so that its boughs remained green. Beneath the Jotunheim root lay the spring or well of Mimir (Mímisbrunnr); and beneath the Helheim root the well Hvergelmir ("the Roaring Cauldron"). In the top of the tree was perched a giant rooster, or more often an eagle named Vidofnir, and sitting upon its forehead was a hawk named Vedrfolnir (Old Norse: Veðrfolnír). The Niflheim roots of Yggdrasil were gnawed at by a dragon, Níðhöggr. Ratatosk, a squirrel, scurried up and down the tree between Níðhöggr and the eagle, forwarding insults between them. There were also four stags feeding on the bark of Yggdrasil: Duneyrr, Durathror, Dvalin, and Dainn. Dvalin manuscript shows Yggdrasill with the assorted animals that live in it.]] The name Yggdrasil, interpreted as "Odin's steed," is taken to Odin's self-sacrifice described in the Hávamál (although the tree is not explicitly identified as Yggdrasil): :I hung on that windy tree for nine nights wounded by my own spear. :I hung to that tree, and no one knows where it is rooted. :None gave me food. None gave me drink. Into the abyss I stared :until I spied the runes. I seized them up, and, howling, fell. The Germanic custom of hanging sacrificial victims from trees was probably in reference to this myth (see also Human sacrifice, Tyr). In 1950, the preserved corpse of the so-called "Tollund Man" was found in a peat bog in Jutland. The excellent level of preservation made it possible to deduce that he had been ritually hanged and respectfully consigned to the bog, not more than a hundred yards from where a ritually hanged woman had been found some decades previously. Many people have discussed the parallels between Odin's self-sacrifice in search of knowledge and the Crucifixion, particularly as Odin, like Jesus, was pierced with a spear before death. However, while possibly influenced by Christianity the myth certainly has pre-Christian origins. Because Jesus Christ was a Jew, Christianity is rooted in Judaism which also prophesied about a Messiah being pierced before death. Other apparent parallels between Norse Mythology and Judaism: Tree of Life connecting the Heavens and the Earth (Yggdrasill), the slaying of the most innocent and his ressurection (Baldr and Odin), the defeat of evil at the final battle at Armageddon (Ragnarok) and the creation of a new Heaven and a new Earth. Yggdrasil is also central in the myth of Ragnarok, the end of the world. The only two humans to survive Ragnarok (there are some survivors among the gods), Lif and Lifthrasir, are able to escape by sheltering in the branches of Yggdrasil, where they feed on the dew and are protected by the tree. "The bellowing fire will not scorch them; it will not even touch them, and their food will be the morning dew. Through the branches they will see a new sun burn as the world ends and starts again." Yggdrasil apparently had smaller counterparts as the enormous evergreen of unknown species that stood at the Temple at Uppsala and Irminsul, which was an oak venerated by the pagan Saxons and which was said to connect heaven and earth. The Old Norse form of Irmin was Jörmun and interestingly, just like Ygg, it was one of Odin's names. It appears, then, that Irminsul may have been representing a world tree corresponding to Yggdrasil among the pagan Saxons. It has been proposed as an explanation for the World Tree myth that the Cirrus clouds – to a ground standing observer appearing to be virtually stationary on the sky – was imagined to be the branches of a gigantic tree, turned seemingly pale the same way that far away mountains do. Accordingly, rain was held to be the dew dropping from the World Tree. Two old German synonyms for clouds, Wetterbaum and Regenbaum (meaning Weather Tree and Rain Tree), are said to attest to this hypothesis.
